A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating October 2014 as "National Physical Therapy Month" in
2Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, What we now celebrate as National Physical Therapy
4Month began in 1981 as National Physical Therapy Week and was
5celebrated in June; and

6WHEREAS, In 1992, National Physical Therapy Week became
7National Physical Therapy Month; and

8WHEREAS, National Physical Therapy Month has grown in
9popularity over the years and it is now a recognized celebration
10in the National Health Observances Calendar; and

11WHEREAS, National Physical Therapy Month provides an
12opportunity for physical therapists and physical therapist
13assistants nationwide to educate their communities about who
14physical therapists are and what they can do; and

15WHEREAS, Physical therapists are experts in restoring and
16improving the motion that is so crucial to a patient's well-
17being; and

1WHEREAS, Physical therapists provide the following services
2for their patients:

3(1) improve mobility and quality of life, in many cases
4without surgery or prescription drugs;

5(2) apply their intensive education and clinical
6experience to restore motion to the patient's life; and

7(3) teach patients how to prevent or manage their health
8condition so that they will achieve an improved quality of
9life;

10and

11WHEREAS, Physical therapists can help baby boomers address
12the physical challenges of aging, including loss of flexibility,
13strength and balance; and

14WHEREAS, Most physical therapy education programs graduate
15doctors of physical therapy; and

16WHEREAS, During the month of October, many physical
17therapists will be conducting open houses, fitness walks,
18seminars and other special events; therefore be it

19RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of October 2014
20as "National Physical Therapy Month" in Pennsylvania.
