A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring the life of former Senator Mike Waugh and extending
2condolences to his family.

3WHEREAS, Senator Mike Waugh, who dedicated more than twenty
4years to public service, died on October 8, 2014, at 58 years of
5age; and

6WHEREAS, Senator Waugh, who worked in his family's
7contracting business and served with the Shrewsbury Volunteer
8Fire Company until 1993, started his political career in 1989
9when he was elected to the Shrewsbury Township Board of
10Supervisors; and

11WHEREAS, Senator Waugh was elected to the House of
12Representatives in 1992 and served in the House of
13Representatives from January 1992 to November 1998; and

14WHEREAS, Senator Waugh served as a member of the Senate,

1where he represented the 28th District from January 1999 until
2January 12, 2014; and

3WHEREAS, Senator Waugh served as the chairman of the Senate
4Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee; and

5WHEREAS, Senator Waugh served as the Governor's appointee to
6the Chesapeake Bay Commission; and

7WHEREAS, Senator Waugh was elected by his colleagues to serve
8as Majority Caucus Chairman in 2007; and

9WHEREAS, Senator Waugh served on the Pennsylvania Stimulus
10Oversight Commission; and

11WHEREAS, Senator Waugh was one of the most beloved members of
12the Senate and was known for his country attire, including his
13Western jacket, cowboy boots and the biggest and best mustache
14in the Capitol; and

15WHEREAS, Senator Waugh was one of the prime authors of
16Pennsylvania's Statewide building code; and

17WHEREAS, Senator Waugh's commitment to agricultural
18education, promotion and advocacy was a mainstay of his
19political career and his personal life; and

20WHEREAS, Senator Waugh was the Governor's appointee to the
21Pennsylvania Farm Show; and

22WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Senator Waugh was serving
23in his dream job as the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania
24Farm Show Complex and Expo Center; and

25WHEREAS, Senator Waugh, together with his wife, Wanda, was
26the owner of Glen Ridge Farm where they raise hay and raise and
27train Percheron draft horses; and

28WHEREAS, In 2010, Senator Waugh became a founding member of
29the Friends of the PA Farm Show Foundation and organized the
30annual Celebrity Draft Horse Competition at the Farm Show as a

1fundraiser for the foundation; and

2WHEREAS, Senator Waugh is survived by his beloved wife,
3Wanda, their son, Joseph, and granddaughter, Camdyn; and

4WHEREAS, Senator Waugh's innate sense of decency and
5integrity and his calming demeanor will be sorely missed;
6therefore be it

7RESOLVED, That the Senate express profound sorrow over the
8loss of this outstanding public servant; and be it further

9RESOLVED, That the Senate express gratitude for the service
10rendered and genuine friendship shared; and be it further

11RESOLVED, That the Senate extend condolences to the family of
12a cherished former member, Senator Mike Waugh, and direct a copy
13of this resolution be transmitted to his family.
