A RESOLUTION
1Designating the month of October 2014 as "Music Therapy Month"
2in Pennsylvania and recognizing music therapy as a valid
3therapeutic service.
4WHEREAS, According to the American Music Therapy Association
5(AMTA), music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of
6music intervention to accomplish individualized goals within a
7therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has
8completed an approved music therapy program; and
9WHEREAS, A board-certified music therapist must earn a degree
10in music therapy at a college or university approved by the AMTA
11and be certified by the Certification Board for Music
12Therapists; and
13WHEREAS, According to the AMTA, music therapy is a health
14field that offers benefits across all developmental domains and
15supports individuals of all ages and ability levels, including
16infants, children, adolescents, adults and seniors; and
17WHEREAS, More than 41,000 Pennsylvanians receive music
1therapy each year; and
2WHEREAS, More than 420 board-certified music therapists work
3in this Commonwealth; and
4WHEREAS, Nine institutions of higher learning in Pennsylvania
5offer degrees in music therapy; therefore be it
6RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of October 2014
7as "Music Therapy Month" in Pennsylvania.
