A RESOLUTION
1Expressing support for the victims of the Nigerian school girls
2kidnapping.
3WHEREAS, On April 14, 2014, over 300 teenaged girls in
4Chibok, Nigeria, were kidnapped by a militant Islamic group
5known as Boko Haram; and
6WHEREAS, The children were kidnapped from a local government
7secondary school that teaches math and science because they were
8receiving a non-Islamic education; and
9WHEREAS, In carrying out the kidnapping, Boko Haram conducted
10a five-hour assault; and
11WHEREAS, In attempting to flee their kidnappers, at least two
12children died; and
13WHEREAS, Media reports indicate that over 276 children remain
14unaccounted for and that additional kidnappings by Boko Haram
15may be occurring in the country; and
16WHEREAS, Millions around the world have called for the safe
17return of the girls; and
18WHEREAS, The Senate of Pennsylvania has a long history of
1opposing human trafficking of any kind in the United States and
2the world; and
3WHEREAS, These reprehensible actions necessitate a reaffirmed
4commitment to speaking out against human trafficking of all
5kinds; therefore be it
6RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania extend its
7sympathies to the families of all children who have died as a
8result of the Boko Haram kidnapping; and be it further
9RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania extend its strong,
10unified and unwavering support to the kidnapping victims, their
11families and the people of Nigeria as they work for the return
12of the girls.
