A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the week of May 6 through 12, 2014, as "Nurses Week"
2in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, which
4includes 31 organizational affiliates, is the largest
5professional nursing association in this Commonwealth; and

6WHEREAS, Established in 1903, the Pennsylvania State Nurses
7Association has advanced the identity, integrity and continuity
8of the profession of nursing in this Commonwealth for more than
9110 years; and

10WHEREAS, "National Nurses Week" begins May 6 and ends May 12
11each year, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale's birthday;
12and

13WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has 212,000 registered nurses,
14including approximately 55,000 licensed practical nurses and
1512,000 advanced practice registered nurses; and

16WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is working

1diligently to chart a new course for a healthy Commonwealth that
2relies on increasing the delivery of primary and preventative
3health care, coupled with a strong focus on nursing care; and

4WHEREAS, The nursing care provided by the registered nurses
5of this Commonwealth is a paramount component of Pennsylvania's
6health care delivery system; therefore be it

7RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of May 6 through
812, 2014, as "Nurses Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further

9RESOLVED, That the Senate join the Pennsylvania State Nurses
10Association and other nursing organizations in recognizing the
11selfless service of Pennsylvania's nurses and the overall
12importance of quality nursing care.
