A RESOLUTION
1Urging the President and the Congress of the United States to
2consider imposing tariffs on imported anthracite coal that
3adversely affect American jobs.
4WHEREAS, The anthracite coal industry accounts for more than
51,000 Pennsylvania jobs; and
6WHEREAS, The anthracite coal industry contributes $200
7million to the Pennsylvania economy; and
8WHEREAS, Pennsylvania anthracite coal production accounts for
92 million tons annually; and
10WHEREAS, Pennsylvania coal fueled a large part of the
11Industrial Revolution and the industrial efforts which helped to
12win two world wars; and
13WHEREAS, Government-sponsored anthracite coal production in
14China, Russia and Ukraine provides unfair competition with
15domestically mined anthracite coal by providing government
16subsidies which reduce their prices far below market rates;
17therefore be it
18RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
1urge the President and the Congress of the United States to
2consider imposing tariffs on imported anthracite coal in order
3to preserve American jobs; and be it further
4RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
5the President of the United States and to the presiding officers
6of each house of Congress and to each member of Congress from
7Pennsylvania.
