3WHEREAS, Suicide is a leading cause of death, especially
4among young people; and

5WHEREAS, Every year, about one million people around the
6world or an individual every 40 seconds dies from suicide; and

7WHEREAS, Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the
8United States and exceeds the deaths resulting from homicide and
9war combined; and

10WHEREAS, Suicide remains a major preventable cause of
11premature death, but many societies have remained silent on the
12issue; and

13WHEREAS, Lives can be saved by recognizing the stigma
14surrounding suicide and encouraging open dialogue; therefore be
15it

16RESOLVED, That the Senate designate September 10, 2013, as
17"World Suicide Prevention Day" in Pennsylvania.
