A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the week of May 12 through 18, 2013, as "National
2Police Week" and May 6, 2013, as "Police Officers' Memorial
3Day" in Pennsylvania.

4WHEREAS, Since the beginning of law enforcement within this
5Commonwealth, approximately 774 police officers have made the
6ultimate sacrifice while in the line of duty, including the
7following officers who died in 2012: Trooper First Class Blake
8T. Coble, Pennsylvania State Police; Police Officer Bradley M.
9Fox, Plymouth Township Police Department; Patrolman Avery
10Freeman, Chester Police Department; Police Officer Brian
11Lorenzo, Philadelphia Police Department and Police Officer Moses
12Walker, Jr., Philadelphia Police Department; and

13WHEREAS, Across the United States the week of May 12 through
1418, 2013, will be recognized as "National Police Week"; and

15WHEREAS, The first National Police Officers' Memorial Day was

1held on May 15, 1982, following a proclamation signed by
2President John F. Kennedy on October 1, 1962, and has continued
3to be observed annually in memory of those police officers who
4made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it

5RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the memory of the hundreds of
6police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty
7in this Commonwealth; and be it further

8RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of May 12
9through 18, 2013, as "National Police Week" and May 6, 2013, as
10"Police Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.
