A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating February 1, 2013, as "National Wear Red Day" in
2Pennsylvania in recognition of the ongoing fight against
3heart disease and stroke and urging all citizens to show
4their support for women and the fight against heart disease
5by commemorating the day by wearing the color red.

6WHEREAS, The American Heart Association's Go Red For Women
7movement has been impacting the health of women for ten years;
8and

9WHEREAS, In that 10-year period, more than 627,000 women's
10lives have been saved and 330 fewer women are dying every day;
11and

12WHEREAS, Heart disease is the number one killer of women yet
13only one in five American women believes that heart disease is
14her greatest threat; and

15WHEREAS, Cardiovascular diseases kills one in three women
16each year, killing approximately one woman every minute; and

17WHEREAS, An estimated 43 million women in the United States
18are affected by cardiovascular diseases; and

19WHEREAS, Ninety percent of women have one or more risk
20factors for developing heart disease; and

1WHEREAS, Women comprise only 24% of participants in all
2heart-related studies; and

3WHEREAS, Since 1984, more women than men have died each year
4from heart disease and the gap between men and women's survival
5rates continues to widen; and

6WHEREAS, Women are less likely to call 911 for themselves
7when experiencing symptoms of a heart attack than they are if
8someone else were experiencing symptom of a heart attack; and

9WHEREAS, In celebration of the 10th National Wear Red Day, Go
10Red For Women is asking all women across the United States to
11join in making America Go Red and in saving women's lives;
12therefore be it

13RESOLVED, That the Senate designate February 1, 2013, as
14"National Wear Red Day" in Pennsylvania in recognition of the
15ongoing fight against heart disease and stroke and urge all
16citizens to show their support for women and the fight against
17heart disease by commemorating the day by wearing the color red.
