A RESOLUTION
1Honoring the life of former Senator Michael P. Schaefer and
2extending deepest condolences to his family.
3WHEREAS, Former Senator Michael P. Schaefer, who served the
4constituents of the 37th Senatorial District from 1976 to 1980,
5passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013, at the age of 66; and
6WHEREAS, After earning his undergraduate degree from
7University of Notre Dame in 1968, Senator Schaefer earned his
8juris doctorate from Georgetown University Law School in 1973;
9and
10WHEREAS, Senator Schaefer served in the United States Army in
11Vietnam and due to his meritorious service earned a Bronze Star;
12and
13WHEREAS, Senator Schaefer was a distinguished legal
14practitioner with nearly 40 years of experience in general
1practice, including real-estate law, land-use planning and
2commercial litigation; and
3WHEREAS, In addition to being a skilled trial lawyer with a
4remarkable ability to tackle complex legal problems in new areas
5of the law, Senator Schaefer was a trailblazer in the areas of
6Pennsylvania condominium law and oil and gas law; and
7WHEREAS, Senator Schaefer was a licensed and bonded title
8insurance agent, who assisted in the transfer of thousands of
9homes and commercial properties; and
10WHEREAS, Senator Schaefer is survived by his beloved
11children, grandchild, siblings, nieces and nephews; and
12WHEREAS, Senator Schaefer was a trusted legal advisor,
13counselor and friend to individuals, families and business
14owners and will be remembered for his dedication to public
15service; therefore be it
16RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the life of Senator Michael
17P. Schaefer, express great sorrow over the loss of this public
18servant and extend sincere condolences to his family.
