AN ACT

 

1Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2Statutes, further providing for issuance and content of
3driver's license.

4The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5hereby enacts as follows:

6Section 1. Section 1510(a.1) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:

8§ 1510. Issuance and content of driver's license.

10(a.1) Veteran's driver's license designation.--

11(1) Beginning as soon as practicable, but no later than
1218 months following the effective date of this subsection,
13the department shall issue a driver's license or
14identification card that clearly indicates that the person is
15a veteran of the United States Armed Forces. A qualified
16applicant is an individual who has served in the United
17States Armed Forces, including a reserve component or the

1National Guard, and who was discharged or released from such
2service under conditions other than dishonorable.

3(2) Upon receipt of an application from a qualified
4applicant accompanied by such documentation as the department
5shall require, the department shall issue to the veteran a
6driver's license or identification card displaying a veteran
7designation. There shall be no fee for the veteran
8designation, but the qualified applicant must pay any renewal
9or duplicate driver's license or identification card fees.

10(3) The department and the Department of Military and
11Veterans Affairs shall enter into an agreement whereby the
12Department of Military and Veterans Affairs shall reimburse
13the Motor License Fund for the department's actual costs of
14the issuance of a veteran's designation on drivers' licenses
15and identification cards. Reimbursement shall be paid from
16the Veterans' Trust Fund or such other funds available for
17this purpose.

18(4) A person who falsely represents himself as a veteran
19of the United States Armed Forces on a driver's license or
20identification card commits a summary offense and shall, upon
21conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $300, or to
22imprisonment for not less than 30 nor more than 90 days, or
23both.

25Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
