AN ACT
1Amending the act of June 24, 1976 (P.L.424, No.101), entitled,
2as amended, "An act providing for the payment of death
3benefits to the surviving spouse or children or parents of
4firefighters, ambulance service or rescue squad members, law
5enforcement officers or National Guard members who die as a
6result of the performance of their duties," further providing
7for certification of death.
8The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
9hereby enacts as follows:
10Section 1. Section 1(a) of the act of June 24, 1976
11(P.L.424, No.101), referred to as the Emergency and Law
12Enforcement Personnel Death Benefits Act, amended October 9,
132009 (P.L.588, No.51), is amended to read:
14Section 1. (a) In the event a law enforcement officer,
15ambulance service or rescue squad member, firefighter, certified
16hazardous material response team member or National Guard member
17dies as a result of the performance of his duties, such
18political subdivision, Commonwealth agency or, in the case of
19National Guard members, the Adjutant General, or, in the case of
1a member of a Commonwealth law enforcement agency, the
2authorized survivor or the agency head, within [90 days] three
3years from the date of death, shall submit certification of such
4death to the Commonwealth.

6Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
