AN ACT
1Selecting, designating and adopting the phrase "Ubi libertas
2vivit, hic patria mihi" as the official Latin motto of the
3Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
4The General Assembly finds that:
5(1) The phrase "Ubi libertas vivit, hic patria mihi" is
6the Latin translation of a quote attributed to the
7Pennsylvania statesman Benjamin Franklin.
8(2) The English translation of the phrase is "Where
9liberty is, there is my country."
10The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
11hereby enacts as follows:
12Section 1. Official State Latin motto.
13The quote "Ubi libertas vivit, hic patria mihi" is selected,
14designated and adopted as the official Latin motto of the
15Commonwealth.
16Section 2. Effective date.
17This act shall take effect immediately.
