AN ACT
1Amending Title 66 (Public Utilities) of the Pennsylvania
2Consolidated Statutes, in railroads, providing for whistle
3post signage.
4The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5hereby enacts as follows:
6Section 1. Title 66 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
7Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
8§ 2710. Whistle post signage.
9(a) Duty.--A public utility engaged in a railroad business
10shall place whistle post signs to the right of the main track in
11the direction of approach exactly one-quarter of a mile from the
12entrance to crossings to notify engineers or operators of
13locomotives who blow a whistle and ring a bell as the locomotive
14approaches the crossing as a warning to the public.
15(b) Signs.--The whistle post signs shall consist of a "W"
16identifiable on a square plate mounted on a post and shall be:
17(1) Visible to an engineer or operator of a locomotive
18within the cabin or caboose car.
1(2) Kept in good repair.
2(3) Replaced promptly when necessary.
3Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
