AN ACT
1Amending the act of June 24, 1976 (P.L.424, No.101), entitled,
2as amended, "An act providing for the payment of death
3benefits to the surviving spouse or children or parents of
4firefighters, ambulance service or rescue squad members, law
5enforcement officers or National Guard members killed in the
6performance of their duties," further providing for
7eligibility for benefits for members of certain ambulance
8services or rescue squads.
9The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
10hereby enacts as follows:
11Section 1. Section 1 of the act of June 24, 1976 (P.L.424,
12No.101), referred to as the Emergency and Law Enforcement
13Personnel Death Benefits Act, is amended by adding a subsection
14to read:

16(c.1) (1) An ambulance service or rescue squad member
17working for a hospital shall be deemed to be acting in the
18performance of his duties for the purposes of this act
19attending, going to or directly returning from an emergency
20which the ambulance service or rescue squad attended,
1including travel from and direct return to the hospital or
2other place where the ambulance service or rescue squad is
3stationed.
4(2) This subsection shall only apply to a hospital
5employee who is directed to respond to an emergency pursuant
6to an agreement to provide emergency service coverage for a
7political subdivision.

9Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
