INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, OCTOBER 6, 2014
A RESOLUTION
1Designating the month of October 2014 as "Wine, Wineries and
2Grapes Month" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, Pennsylvania growers produce many of the finest food
4products available worldwide; and
5WHEREAS, Today the growth of Pennsylvania grapes occurs
6thanks to the tireless efforts of generations of Pennsylvanians
7who played instrumental roles in the founding of this nation's
8great wine industry; and
9WHEREAS, The United States' first commercial grapevine
10nursery operated in Montgomery County in southeastern
11Pennsylvania; and
12WHEREAS, With more than 140 wineries in this Commonwealth,
13Pennsylvania is seventh in the nation in the number of wineries
1and fifth in the amount of wine produced; and
2WHEREAS, Our wineries, grapes and grape juice provide a $2.35
3billion economic impact to this Commonwealth annually; and
4WHEREAS, Since 2010, Commonwealth wineries boasted more than
575 award-winning entries in several national and international
6wine competitions; and
7WHEREAS, With numbers like these, the Pennsylvania Winery
8Association is proud to celebrate the industry during October's
9Pennsylvania Wine Month; and
10WHEREAS, This October wine lovers can revel in the year's
11bountiful harvest as many of the wineries and trails throughout
12this Commonwealth are offering harvest and celebration events;
13therefore be it
14RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
15significant and invaluable contributions made by the grape
16industry and the wine industry to this Commonwealth's history,
17economy and quality of life; and be it further
18RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
19month of October 2014 as "Wine, Wineries and Grapes Month" in
20Pennsylvania; and be it further
21RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage the
22citizens of this Commonwealth to celebrate "Wine, Wineries and
23Grapes Month" by enjoying many of the grape products of
24Pennsylvania growers and responsibly partaking of favorite
25Pennsylvania wine products while engaging in the festivities and
26gaining awareness of the services and products offered by
27Pennsylvania wineries through all seasons of the year.
