A RESOLUTION
1Designating October 2014 as "Music Therapy Month" in
2Pennsylvania and recognizing music therapy as a valid
3therapeutic service.
4WHEREAS, According to the American Music Therapy Association
5(AMTA), music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of
6music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a
7therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has
8completed an approved music therapy program; and
9WHEREAS, In order for a person to be a board-certified music
10therapist (MT-BC), he or she must complete a degree in music
11therapy at a college or university approved by the AMTA and be
12certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists
13(CBMT); and
14WHEREAS, According to the AMTA, music therapy is a health
15field that offers benefits across all developmental domains and
1supports individuals of all ages and ability levels, including
2infants, children, adolescents, adults and older adults; and
3WHEREAS, More than 41,000 Pennsylvanians receive music
4therapy each year; and
5WHEREAS, More than 420 board-certified music therapists work
6in this Commonwealth; and
7WHEREAS, Nine institutions of higher learning in Pennsylvania
8offer degrees in music therapy; therefore be it
9RESOLVED That the House of Representatives designate October
102014 as "Music Therapy Month" in Pennsylvania.
