A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating October 10, 2014, as "Put the Brakes on Fatalities
2Day" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The number of highway deaths on Pennsylvania roads
4declined to a record low last year when 1,208 were recorded, the
5lowest number since recordkeeping began in 1928; and

6WHEREAS, There are many controllable causes of traffic
7fatalities, including excessive speed, use of alcohol and drugs,
8inexperience and carelessness; and

9WHEREAS, The National Society of Professional Engineers, the
10Institute of Transportation Engineers Expert Witness Council and
11a coalition of government agencies have teamed up to focus
12national public awareness October 10, 2014, regarding the cause
13of traffic fatalities and the need to reduce the number of
14traffic fatalities; and

1WHEREAS, There is national interest in designating October
210, 2014, as Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day; and

3WHEREAS, On that day everyone should take an extra measure of
4care to ensure their safety and the safety of sharing the road
5with other users in a safe manner by:

6(1) driving courteously and defensively;

7(2) knowing the rules of the road for their method of
8transportation and obeying all signs and signals;

9(3) wearing protective gear, seat belts or helmets; and

10(4) avoiding speeding or driving while impaired or
11driving aggressively;

12therefore be it

13RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
1410, 2014, as "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day" in Pennsylvania.
