1Honoring the Taney Dragons Little League team for its
2outstanding season, recognizing the Taney Youth Baseball
3Association upon the 20th anniversary of its founding and
4designating the week of September 14 through 20, 2014, as
5"Taney Dragons Week" in Pennsylvania.

6WHEREAS, The Taney Dragons 12U Little League team captured
7the attention of people throughout this Commonwealth and the
8nation with its outstanding play at the Little League World
9Series in Williamsport; and

10WHEREAS, The team won two great games in the World Series
11competition, first by a 4-0 win over Southeast (Tennessee) and
12then with a 7-6 come-from-behind walk-off win over Southwest
13(Pearland, Texas), the first wins in a Little League World
14Series by a team from Philadelphia; and

15WHEREAS, The Taney Dragons team brought together people from

1across this Commonwealth, some of whom rooted for the team in
2Williamsport, while others gathered at Philadelphia City Hall to
3watch the team's performance on big screens, and nationwide
4interest in the series broke ratings records for the ESPN sports
5channel; and

6WHEREAS, Mo'ne Davis, one of the team's outstanding pitchers,
7became the first Little League player to have her photograph
8appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine; and

9WHEREAS, In addition to its sensational Little League World
10Series showing, the Taney Dragons also won the Mid-Atlantic
11Little League Championship, the Pennsylvania Little League
12Championship, the Little League Pennsylvania Section 8
13Championship and the District 19 Championship, among other
14triumphs; and

15WHEREAS, The Taney Youth Baseball Association is the
16organization that stands behind and supports the Taney Dragons;
17and

18WHEREAS, The Taney Youth Baseball Association began operating
19in 1994, and this year marks its 20th anniversary; and

20WHEREAS, The Taney Youth Baseball Association offers fun,
21instruction, good sportsmanship and teamwork to nearly 1,000
22Philadelphia boys and girls between three and 15 years of age
23through baseball, softball and tee ball and to more than 300
24boys and girls between six and 15 years of age through
25basketball; and

26WHEREAS, The Taney Youth Baseball Association makes a
27difference in many young lives in the City of Philadelphia and
28beyond as demonstrated by the Taney Dragons' success in the
29Little League World Series; therefore be it

30RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the Taney

1Dragons Little League team for its outstanding season and
2congratulate its players, coaches, volunteers and sponsors on
3their impressive representation of the City of Philadelphia and
4this Commonwealth at the Little League World Series and the
5championship victories of the team; and be it further

6RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
720th anniversary of the Taney Youth Baseball Association and
8commend all those involved in supporting its efforts to provide
9opportunities to boys and girls in the City of Philadelphia
10through baseball, softball, tee ball and basketball and the
11important lessons that participation in sports can teach; and be
12it further

13RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
14week of September 14 through 20, 2014, as "Taney Dragons Week"
15in Pennsylvania.
