A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating September 11, 2014, as "Keystone Wounded Warrior
2Day" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, According to a February 2014 Congressional Research
4Service report titled "A Guide to U.S. Military Casualty
5Statistics: Operation New Dawn (OND), Operation Iraqi Freedom
6(OIF), and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)," 50,450 United
7States service members have been wounded since Operation Iraqi
8Freedom first began; and

9WHEREAS, From 2002 through 2012, 103,792 service members who
10were deployed in these conflicts were diagnosed with post-
11traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); and

12WHEREAS, Over that same time period, 253,330 service members

1were diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) of some kind;
2and

3WHEREAS, As a result of battle injuries, 1,715 service
4members received wounds that required amputations, and 1,493
5servicemembers lost major limbs; and

6WHEREAS, According to the Department of Defense's casualty
7Internet website, as of January 9, 2013, 235 service members
8have died of self-inflicted wounds while serving in OIF/OND, and
997 service members have died of self-inflicted wounds while
10serving in OEF; and

11WHEREAS, Founded in 2009, Keystone Wounded Warriors is an
12Eastern Pennsylvania-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that
13seeks to honor the daily sacrifices made by the brave men and
14women in all branches of the United States military,
15specifically those wounded on or after September 11, 2001; and

16WHEREAS, Keystone Wounded Warriors aids Pennsylvania's
17wounded warriors by raising public awareness and seeking the
18public's support for programs and services that assist our
19wounded warriors as they transition back to civilian life; and

20WHEREAS, Keystone Wounded Warriors provides direct resources
21for daily needs, such as groceries and personal items, for
22wounded warriors and their families; partners with Corps Fitness
23in Wyomissing to provide specialized physical training and goal
24setting and works with local gyms in areas in which our wounded
25warriors are located to ensure they have the opportunity to stay
26active; and provides counseling and mentorship by working with
27local veterans' counseling centers; therefore be it

28RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
29September 11, 2014, as "Keystone Wounded Warrior Day" in
30Pennsylvania; and be it further

1RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage the
2citizens of this great Commonwealth to support groups, such as
3Keystone Wounded Warriors, to ensure that the many sacrifices of
4our brave servicemen and servicewomen are not forgotten.
