A RESOLUTION
1Expressing condolences on the death of Edwin Jeffrey "Lance"
2Wentzel, member of the Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department,
3who died in the line of duty on March 22, 2014.
4WHEREAS, Edwin Jeffrey "Lance" Wentzel was a member of the
5Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department of the Borough of Youngwood,
6Westmoreland County, in which department he served as a
7volunteer firefighter for 35 years; and
8WHEREAS, Born in Greensburg on October 16, 1956, Mr. Wentzel
9was a son of the late Jacob and Irma Wentzel; and
10WHEREAS, Mr. Wentzel was a 35-year employee of Scott Electric
11in Southwest Greensburg; and
12WHEREAS, Mr. Wentzel volunteered at the Ground Zero site in
13the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001;
14and
1WHEREAS, Mr. Wentzel was an active member of the 14th
2Quartermaster family support group and an avid marathon runner;
3and
4WHEREAS, On March 22, 2014, Mr. Wentzel was struck and killed
5by a train while he was helping to search for a woman who had
6been reported missing; and
7WHEREAS, At the time of his death Mr. Wentzel was 57 years
8old; and
9WHEREAS, Mr. Wentzel was an exemplary volunteer firefighter
10as evidenced by the fact that he was chosen as the department's
11"Firefighter of the Year" in 2012; and
12WHEREAS, Mr. Wentzel leaves a legacy of distinguished and
13honorable service to his community; and
14WHEREAS, Mr. Wentzel is survived by his wife, Judith; two
15sons, Jeffrey and Christopher; two stepsons, Justin and Jason
16Vestrand; three grandchildren; and five siblings; therefore be

18RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express
19condolences on the death of Edwin Jeffrey "Lance" Wentzel,
20member of the Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department, who died in
21the line of duty on March 22, 2014.
