A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the 15th anniversary of the Law and Government
2Institute of Widener University School of Law.

3WHEREAS, Professor John L. Gedid, the founder and former
4director of the Law and Government Institute of Widener
5University School of Law, established the Law and Government
6Institute as part of Widener University School of Law in 1999;
7and

8WHEREAS, Professor Gedid retired in July 2013, and the new
9director of the Law and Government Institute is Professor Jill
10Family; and

11WHEREAS, The Law and Government Institute is the signature
12program of Widener University School of Law's Harrisburg Campus;
13and

14WHEREAS, Located in the capital city, the Law and Government
15Institute partners with policymakers, the media and key State
16officials to explore the intersections of policy, politics and

1the law; and

2WHEREAS, The Law and Government Institute educates students
3and the public about the law that governs administrative
4agencies and works to improve the regulatory process; and

5WHEREAS, The Law and Government Institute provides
6certificate programs for law students in Administrative Law,
7Environmental Law and Legislation; and

8WHEREAS, The Law and Government Institute provides students
9with the opportunity to learn about the legislative process
10through its Legislation Certificate; and

11WHEREAS, Law and Government Institute students contribute to
12government law by completing externships with State government
13agencies; and

14WHEREAS, Over 150 Widener University School of Law alumni
15have graduated with a Law and Government Certificate; and

16WHEREAS, Widener University School of Law students prepare
17annotations for the Pennsylvania Code; and

18WHEREAS, Widener University School of Law students publish
19articles for continuing legal education programs of the
20Statutory Law Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association; and

21WHEREAS, Widener University School of Law has educated alumni
22who currently serve, or have previously served, in Pennsylvania
23State government, including Senator Richard Alloway II, and
24Representatives Mark B. Cohen, Bryan Cutler, Peter J. Daley II,
25Madeleine Dean, John P. Sabatina Jr., and Todd Stephens; retired
26Senator Anthony Andrezeski and retired Representatives Ronald
27Cowell, Tom Houghton, David Mayernik, Frank J. Pistella, Curt
28Schroder and the late Terry Van Horne; current Auditor General
29Eugene DePasquale; former United States Congressman Patrick J.
30Murphy; and many staff presently employed by the Senate and

1House of Representatives, including Secretary of the Senate,
2Megan Consedine; the judiciary; and State agencies under the
3jurisdiction of the Governor; therefore be it

4RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
515th anniversary of the Law and Government Institute of Widener
6University School of Law; and be it further

7RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend
8congratulations and appreciation to the Law and Government
9Institute for the contributions provided by the institute to
10this Commonwealth, in general, and to the General Assembly, in
11particular; and be it further

12RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
13Jill Family, Associate Professor of Law and Director, Law and
14Government Institute, Widener University School of Law,
15Harrisburg Campus, 3800 Vartan Way, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
