A RESOLUTION
1Honoring the United States Coast Guard on the occasion of its
2214th anniversary.
3WHEREAS, The United States Coast Guard is one of America's
4five military services; and
5WHEREAS, The United States Coast Guard was founded in 1790;
6and
7WHEREAS, The United States Coast Guard protects the personal
8safety and security of the American people, the marine
9transportation system and infrastructure, America's natural and
10economic resources and the territorial integrity of the nation;
11and
12WHEREAS, The United States Coast Guard defends against
13internal and external, natural and man-made threats; and
14WHEREAS, The United States Coast Guard carries out its
1mission in United States ports, inland waterways, along the
2coasts and on international waters; and
3WHEREAS, In 2012, the United States Coast Guard:
4(1) responded to 20,510 search and rescue cases and saved
5over 3,800 lives;
6(2) conducted nearly 1,700 security boardings on High
7Interest Vessels bound for the United States;
8(3) interdicted nearly 2,500 undocumented migrants
9attempting to illegally enter the United States;
10(4) conducted over 46,000 recreational vessel boardings,
11issued over 8,000 citations and visited 1,150 recreational
12boat manufacturers in conjunction with state efforts to
13provide education and ensure compliance with Federal
14regulations;
15(5) investigated and responded to over 3,000 pollution
16incidents;
17(6) removed over 160,000 pounds of cocaine bound toward
18the United States via the Transit Zone; and
19WHEREAS, The men and women of the United States Coast Guard
20have served the United States with honor and distinction for 214
21years; therefore be it
22RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the United
23States Coast Guard on the occasion of its 214th anniversary.
