INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JUNE 3, 2014
A RESOLUTION
1Designating the weeks of August 24, 2014, through August 30,
22014, and August 31, 2014, through September 6, 2014, as
3"Back to School Weeks" in Pennsylvania.
4WHEREAS, The Constitution of Pennsylvania declares that the
5General Assembly shall provide for the maintenance and support
6of a thorough and efficient system of public education to serve
7the needs of the students and families of this Commonwealth; and
8WHEREAS, Education is a primary concern of the Commonwealth
9and the members of the House of Representatives, who are
10instrumental in assuring the quality of Pennsylvania schools;
11and
12WHEREAS, The House of Representatives supports education
13initiatives that foster healthy intellectual and educational
14development among students, and
15WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is comprised of more than 500 school
16districts, with more than 5,500 schools educating students from
1kindergarten through 12th grade; and
2WHEREAS, Back to school week marks the official end of summer
3and the start of a new and challenging school year for students,
4parents, teachers and school administrations; and
5WHEREAS, The House of Representatives encourages and supports
6students across this Commonwealth to embrace learning and to
7enjoy the school year ahead; therefore be it
8RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
9weeks of August 24, 2014, through August 30, 2014, and August
1031, 2014, through September 6, 2014, as "Back to School Weeks"
11in Pennsylvania.
