A RESOLUTION
1Recognizing and congratulating the members of the Delta Sigma
2Theta Sorority, Incorporated's Pennsylvania Social Action
3Network.
4WHEREAS, The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated,
5founded in 1913 by 22 diligent collegiate women on the campus of
6Howard University, has blossomed into the largest African
7American women's organization in the United States; and
8WHEREAS, The sorority has distinguished itself as an
9organization grounded in public service through the
10implementation of the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of Economic
11Development, Educational Development, International Awareness
12and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health and Political
13Awareness and Involvement; and
14WHEREAS, Every chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has
15established a Social Action Committee to execute the initiatives
16of the Political Awareness and Involvement Programmatic Thrust;
1and
2WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Social Action Network, known as
3PSAN, was formed as the umbrella organization to link the
4Commonwealth's 25 alumnae and collegiate Social Action
5Committees to facilitate greater communication and formulate a
6collective voice; and
7WHEREAS, PSAN is the first Delta organization to institute a
8unified front representing the 1,500 Statewide members dedicated
9to addressing the social and political issues impacting
10Pennsylvania's most vulnerable residents; and
11WHEREAS, In 2004, PSAN revived the annual Delta Day at the
12State Capitol, a featured event when the women of Delta visit
13Harrisburg to discuss pertinent legislation, policy and quality
14of life concerns with members of the General Assembly on behalf
15of their respective communities; and
16WHEREAS, PSAN also takes advantage of this opportunity to
17explore new ways to collaboratively address issues that impact
18residents of Pennsylvania in an effort to effectively guide the
19organization's direction for community service; and
20WHEREAS, PSAN is also invested in serving the community at
21the grassroots level, instituting more than a dozen programs
22addressing issues related to voter education, engagement and
23affordable health care, as well as access to high-quality
24primary, secondary and collegiate education; and
25WHEREAS, Members of PSAN have led multiple voter registration
26drives and social action education forums, actively participated
27in the Pennsylvania Voter ID Coalition and encouraged enrollment
28in the various features of the Affordable Care Act through
29collaborative awareness campaigns; and
30WHEREAS, PSAN has also implemented effective letter writing
1campaigns to Federal and State legislators on issues related to
2monetary appropriations, economic development, housing,
3education and voting rights; and
4WHEREAS, The Deltas of PSAN continue to follow in the
5footsteps of the organization's founders paving a trail of
6proactive leadership, dedicated humanitarianism and an
7unwavering commitment to enhance the lives of the citizens
8residing throughout this Commonwealth; therefore be it
9RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor, recognize
10and congratulate Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated's
11Pennsylvania Social Action Network and Social Action Committees
12for their steadfast engagement in political awareness and
13involvement.
