A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the month of May 2014 as "Older Pennsylvanians
2Month" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, May has traditionally been recognized as Older
4Americans Month in the United States, a month set aside to honor
5older adults who are among our most treasured resources, who are
6united by historical experiences and strengthened by diversity,
7and who interpret events through varied perspectives and
8backgrounds to bring wisdom and insight to our communities; and

9WHEREAS, The Department of Health and Human Services'
10Administration on Aging has announced that the theme of Older
11Americans Month 2014 is "Safe Today. Healthy Tomorrow."; and

12WHEREAS, Increasing numbers of adults are reaching retirement
13age, and it is especially important to note that those who were
14born in the first year of the baby-boom generation reached 65
15years of age in 2011; and

1WHEREAS, Every year since 1963, May has been a month to
2celebrate the vitality and aspirations of older adults and their
3contributions to our communities; and

4WHEREAS, Older adults are productive, active and influential
5members of society, sharing essential talents, wisdom and life
6experience with their families, friends and neighbors; and

7WHEREAS, Older adults deserve recognition for the
8contributions they have made and will make to the culture,
9economy and character of the United States and this
10Commonwealth; therefore be it

11RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
12month of May 2014 as "Older Pennsylvanians Month" in
13Pennsylvania; and be it further

14RESOLVED, That every citizen be urged to take time this month
15to honor Pennsylvania's older adults and the professionals,
16family members and volunteers who care for many of them.
