A RESOLUTION
1Recognizing May 15, 2014, as "Measure Up/Pressure Down National
2Day of Action: Roll Up Your Sleeves!" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, One in three adults, 68,000,000, in the United
4States suffers from high blood pressure or hypertension; and
5WHEREAS, Those with high blood pressure or hypertension are
6at an increased risk for heart disease and stroke, two of the
7leading causes of death in the United States; and
8WHEREAS, Nationally, only half of all patients with high
9blood pressure or hypertension have their condition under
10control; and
11WHEREAS, The American Medical Group Foundation (AMGF) created
12a three-year national campaign entitled "Measure Up/Pressure
13Down" to help patients reduce the burden of high blood pressure
14or hypertension; and
15WHEREAS, The Measure Up/Pressure Down campaign strives to
1raise awareness and achieve lasting improvements in blood
2pressure control for all Americans; and
3WHEREAS, Medical practices that are members of the AMGF are
4utilizing this campaign to work together to raise awareness
5among patients, employers and communities about the dangers of
6uncontrolled high blood pressure or hypertension; and
7WHEREAS, Increased control will result in a reduction in
8strokes, heart attacks and deaths related to high blood pressure
9or hypertension; therefore be it
10RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 15,
112014, as "Measure Up/Pressure Down National Day of Action: Roll
12Up Your Sleeves!" in Pennsylvania to increase awareness of high
13blood pressure and hypertension and encourage patients to take
14control of these medical conditions.
