A RESOLUTION
1Designating the week of May 11 through 17, 2014, as "National
2Hospital Week" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's hospitals play an integral role in
4delivering health care services to all the people of this
5Commonwealth, providing acute inpatient care as well as
6outpatient, emergency, rehabilitation and psychiatric services;
7and
8WHEREAS, National Hospital Week dates back to 1921 when it
9began at the suggestion of a newspaper editor who hoped a
10community-wide celebration would alleviate public fears about
11hospitals; and
12WHEREAS, The theme for National Hospital Week this year is
13"Compassion, Innovation, Dedication: The Commitment Continues";
1and
2WHEREAS, National Hospital Week is a time to recognize
3hospital staff and promote hospitals' mission of health and
4wellness; and
5WHEREAS, Hospitals provide free care to those who have no
6health care insurance or inadequate insurance coverage; and
7WHEREAS, Hospitals are key elements in Pennsylvania's economy
8and are often the leading employers in their communities; and
9WHEREAS, Hospitals are reaching out to many other interests
10in their communities to form partnerships for a healthy America;
11therefore be it
12RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 11
13through 17, 2014, as "National Hospital Week" in Pennsylvania;
14and be it further
15RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge its members
16to visit the hospitals in their districts in recognition of the
17vital role that hospitals play in Pennsylvania's communities and
18health care system.
