A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring the life of Hazel G. Hoffman for her contributions and
2commitment to the East Berlin Borough community.

3WHEREAS, Hazel G. Hoffman was born January 12, 1918, in East
4Berlin, Pennsylvania; and

5WHEREAS, Hazel attended East Berlin High School in the
6Bermudian School District; and

7WHEREAS, Hazel was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in
8East Berlin, where she chaired the worship assistant committee
9for 12 years, sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school
10in the children's department; and

11WHEREAS, Hazel was a lifetime member of the Order of the
12Eastern Star and former District Deputy Grand Matron of Conewago
13Chapter No. 532, New Oxford, where she spent her time visiting
14the ill and infirm members of her church; and

15WHEREAS, Hazel served as president, elder and deacon of the
16Zwingli United Church of Christ, East Berlin, and also served
17several terms on the Consistory; and

18WHEREAS, Hazel served on the Bermudian Springs School Board

1for 12 years; and

2WHEREAS, Hazel was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the
3East Berlin Fire Co., a member of AARP and East Berlin Senior
4Citizens and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the
5VFW Post and the American Legion in East Berlin; and

6WHEREAS, Hazel served on the steering committee that formed
7the East Berlin Senior Center and served two terms on its board
8after it was chartered; and

9WHEREAS, Hazel served as chairwoman of the East Berlin
10division of the Salvation Army for 28 years beginning in 1956,
11and has received numerous awards as chairwoman of the Service
12Unit for East Berlin; and

13WHEREAS, Hazel was a member of the Adams County Republican
14Women and served as its chaplain; and

15WHEREAS, Hazel was a member of the East Berlin Historical
16Preservation Society, the Friends of East Berlin Library and
17served on the Planning Commission for East Berlin Borough; and

18WHEREAS, Hazel was nominated for the Jefferson Award and
19received service awards from East Berlin and the York Springs
20Lions Club for outstanding service; and

21WHEREAS, Hazel received the Clark Spence Republican of the
22Year Award in 1992, and received the Soroptimist International
23of Gettysburg Award for Humanitarian of the Year in 1996; and

24WHEREAS, Hazel worked at Penn Wood Co. for 40 years as a
25secretary and administrative assistant; and

26WHEREAS, Hazel G. Hoffman passed away on Saturday, February
2722, 2014, at the age of 96; therefore be it

28RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of
29Hazel G. Hoffman for her contributions and commitment to the
30East Berlin Borough community.
