A RESOLUTION
1Honoring the life and extending condolences for the supreme
2sacrifice of United States Marine Lance Corporal Joshua M.
3Martino, who tragically lost his life in service to our
4country on March 18, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained
5during a military training mission in Hawthorne, Nevada.
6WHEREAS, United States Marine Lance Corporal Joshua M.
7Martino was born on May 28, 1993, and raised in DuBois,
8graduating on May 31, 2012, from DuBois Area High School where
9he was a track and field star, competing on the 2012 District IX
10Boys AAA Track and Field 4x800 meter relay champion team,
11competed on the football and rifle teams and was a snowboarder
12in the ski club; and
13WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino was a Boy Scout, a
1member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in
2DuBois and traveled to Europe in 2011 as a Student Ambassador
3with People to People; and
4WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino enjoyed hunting,
5fishing, camping, boating, shooting and playing drums; and
6WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino volunteered in
7Europe by cleaning waterways, working with individuals with
8special needs and building a habitat for wildlife, volunteered
9with the Special Olympics and was a volunteer firefighter; and
10WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino had a passion for
11health and well-being, lived life to its fullest and loved
12challenges and new experiences; and
13WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino wanted to be a
14Marine since the age of eight because he could not stand by and
15let anything happen to his family or his country without doing
16something; and
17WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino joined the United
18States Marine Corps on July 9, 2012, completed recruit training
19at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina,
20went to the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, North Carolina,
21where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0341,
22Mortarman, joined the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, Alpha Company
23in December 2012, was an ammunition bearer during his time in
24Weapons Platoon and was slated for his first deployment to
25Afghanistan in October 2013; and
26WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino was awarded the
27National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism
28Service Medal and was posthumously promoted to the rank of Lance
29Corporal; and
30WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino died on Monday,
1March 18, 2013, from injuries sustained in a military training
2mission in Hawthorne, Nevada, and he was given full military
3honors at Morningside Cemetery; and
4WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino is survived by his
5mother, Karen M. Perry; father, Vincent Martino; stepfather,
6John A. Perry; brothers, Anthony J. Perry, John V. Perry and
7James M. Perry; his fiancée, Annastasia Srock and three sisters-
8in-law, four nieces and one nephew; therefore be it
9RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
10and extend condolences for the supreme sacrifice of United
11States Marine Lance Corporal Joshua M. Martino, who tragically
12lost his life in service to our country on March 18, 2013, as a
13result of injuries sustained during a military training mission
14in Hawthorne, Nevada.
