A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating May 1, 2014, as "Loyalty Day" in Pennsylvania.

2WHEREAS, The Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign
3Wars of the United States, is conducting its annual "Loyalty
4Day" program on the grounds of the State Capitol on May 1, 2014;
5and

6WHEREAS, In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the
7act of July 18, 1958 (Public Law 85-529, 72 Stat. 369), which
8designates the first day in May of each year as "Loyalty Day";
9and

10WHEREAS, "Loyalty Day" is set aside as a special day for
11reaffirming loyalty to the United States and recognizing
12American freedom; and

13WHEREAS, The President of the United States annually issues a
14proclamation calling on officials to proudly display the flag of

1the United States on all government buildings on this special
2day; and

3WHEREAS, Citizens and elected officials are encouraged to
4observe "Loyalty Day" in schools and other appropriate places;
5and

6WHEREAS, In the post-9/11 world, it is fitting that the
7citizens of this Commonwealth pause on "Loyalty Day" to reflect
8on the privileges of freedom, democracy and unmatched
9opportunity that we enjoy in the United States; therefore be it

10RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 1,
112014, as "Loyalty Day" in Pennsylvania, proudly joining the
12Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the
13United States, in its observance and commend the department for
14its continued service to our nation and this Commonwealth; and
15be it further

16RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
17Pennsylvania State Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Russel R.
18Canevari on May 1, 2014, at the "Loyalty Day" program conducted
19by the Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign Wars of
20the United States, on the grounds of the State Capitol.
