A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring the life of Bill Guarnere for service to his country
2and for his heroism during World War II.

3WHEREAS, William "Wild Bill" Guarnere was born on April 28,
41923, in the City of Philadelphia and died on March 8, 2014; and

5WHEREAS, Bill Guarnere was a noncommissioned officer with
6Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment,
7101st Airborne Division of the United States Army during World
8War II; and

9WHEREAS, Bill Guarnere fought in some of the fiercest
10European battles between 1942 and 1945, including D-Day, the
11Battle of Normandy, Operation Market Garden and the Battle of
12the Bulge; and

13WHEREAS, Bill Guarnere earned many commendations, including

1the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts; and

2WHEREAS, Bill Guarnere wrote a nationally best-selling memoir
3called "Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends"; and

4WHEREAS, Bill Guarnere was portrayed in the 2001 HBO
5miniseries "Band of Brothers"; and

6WHEREAS, Bill Guarnere was an active member of many veterans
7organizations and presided over Easy Company reunions; therefore
8be it

9RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of
10Bill Guarnere for service to his country and for his heroism
11during World War II.
