A RESOLUTION
1Recognizing the economic impact Pocono International Raceway has
2made in northeast Pennsylvania and the entire Commonwealth.
3WHEREAS, Pocono International Raceway's annual events attract
4hundreds of thousands of racing fans and contribute millions of
5dollars and thousands of jobs to the local economy of northeast
6Pennsylvania; and
7WHEREAS, The raceway spends millions of dollars every year on
8wages, salaries, supplies, services and equipment; and
9WHEREAS, The site is currently in its third generation,
10making the raceway one of the few NASCAR tracks that are family-
11owned and operated; and
12WHEREAS, The raceway itself is a unique track, with its
13triangular shape of 2.5 miles; and
1WHEREAS, For 45-plus years, the raceway has hosted the NASCAR
2Sprint Cup Series, the Camping World Truck Series, the ARCA
3Racing Series and the IndyCar Series; and
4WHEREAS, The scale of its economic contribution is
5noteworthy; and
6WHEREAS, In 2013, Pocono International Raceway contributed
7$257.5 million to the income of northeast Pennsylvania
8residents, created approximately 2,752 new jobs and generated
9almost $15 million in tax revenue for the Commonwealth; and
10WHEREAS, In 2014, the raceway intends to expand the number of
11facility users and sponsor new, nontraditional events, making
12its potential economic impact even greater; and
13WHEREAS, The forecast for 2014 estimates that Pocono
14International Raceway will generate $277 million in new income
15for the region and create 3,009 jobs; therefore be it
16RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
17Pocono International Raceway for its economic contributions to
18northeast Pennsylvania and to the entire Commonwealth.
