A RESOLUTION
1Designating February 5, 2014, as "SADD Shines Day" in
2Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, SADD, known as Students Against Destructive
4Decisions and founded as Students Against Drunk Driving in 1981,
5celebrates national SADD Shines Day, a day to highlight all the
6ways SADD teens make a difference in our lives, on February 5,
72014; and
8WHEREAS, SADD is the nation's leading youth-based peer-to-
9peer education, prevention and activism organization with
10thousands of chapters across the United States, more than
11350,000 students actively participating and more than 7 million
12students in schools with SADD chapters; and
13WHEREAS, SADD has been a symbol of youth lighting the way for
1432 years to promote positive decision making by youth regarding
1critical everyday issues such as underage drinking, tobacco and
2other drug use, impaired and reckless driving and teen violence
3and suicide; and
4WHEREAS, SADD shares the goal of this Commonwealth to keep
5youth safe and alive, and has made a difference in the lives of
6thousands of youth; and
7WHEREAS, SADD is celebrating this important milestone with a
8special event called SADD Shines Day, involving students,
9teachers, parents and other community members on Wednesday,
10February 5, 2014; therefore be it
11RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
12Wednesday, February 5, 2014, as "SADD Shines Day" in
13Pennsylvania and furthermore call upon citizens and students of
14Pennsylvania to observe this day with activities and programs
15honoring SADD, its mission and the youth of the community who
16participate in these programs.
