A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the 175th birthday of Clinton County, Pennsylvania.

2WHEREAS, On June 21, 1839, Clinton County was created from
3parts of Centre and Lycoming Counties, and the county seat is
4Lock Haven; and

5WHEREAS, It was first named Eagle County; and

6WHEREAS, Later, it was named in honor of the seventh Governor
7of New York State, DeWitt Clinton; and

8WHEREAS, Clinton County is at the heart of the Pennsylvania
9Wilds located along the Susquehanna River; and

10WHEREAS, Piper Aircraft was one of the area's largest
11employers and the Piper Museum remains one of the largest
12attractions with an annual fly-in; and

13WHEREAS, The area is proud of its foliage and celebrates
14nature and the beautiful fall colors at the Flaming Foliage
15Festival; and

16WHEREAS, The Megatransect is a hike and trail run in excess
17of 26 miles through the county that has grown to one of the

1largest trail events in the United States; and

2WHEREAS, For 43 years the Jaycees have sponsored a Regatta on
3Labor Day weekend to close out the summer, and racers from the
4American Powerboat Association come from all over the world to
5participate in the largest boat race of its kind on the east
6coast; and

7WHEREAS, Since 1972 the Clinton County Fair has given the
8residents a place to showcase and enjoy 4-H and agricultural
9exhibits; and

10WHEREAS, It is home to one of our 14 State universities, Lock
11Haven University, educating and preparing students for the
12future; and

13WHEREAS, Clinton County is the home of the Keystone Mid-
14Atlantic champions of the 2011 Little League World Series;
15therefore be it

16RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and
17congratulate Clinton County on its 175th birthday; and be it
18further

19RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
20the Clinton County Board of Commissioners.
