A RESOLUTION
1Designating June 22, 2014, as "Lineworker Appreciation Day" in
2Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, Electric energy in the United States is generated by
4thousands of independently owned and operated power plants; and
5WHEREAS, A complex electrical grid consisting of more than
6five million miles of transmission and distribution lines
7connects all these power plants to deliver energy to our homes,
8businesses, hospitals, churches and schools; and
9WHEREAS, Despite inclement weather, hurricanes, tornadoes and
10other potential hazards, the nationwide electrical grid must be
11maintained and operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365
12days a year; and
13WHEREAS, Approximately 114,000 skilled individuals known as
14electrical lineworkers are employed by each independently owned
1utility to carry out vital installation, operations and
2maintenance services; and
3WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's skilled and dedicated lineworkers
4have earned recognition for speed, accuracy and safety in
5performing their very dangerous work; and
6WHEREAS, The House of Representatives extends gratitude and
7appreciation to the hardworking men and women who risk their
8lives daily in this Commonwealth to ensure reliable delivery of
9electric energy; therefore be it
10RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate June
1122, 2014, as "Lineworker Appreciation Day" in Pennsylvania.
