A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the month of November 2013 as "National Model
2Railroad Month" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, National Model Railroad Month, observed since 1971,
4unites model railroad enthusiasts and hobbyists of all ages; and

5WHEREAS, The National Model Railroad Association is
6sponsoring shows and related events nationwide to promote
7educational aspects of model railroading and to guide novices
8through the stages of building a model railroad; and

9WHEREAS, In conjunction with the national observance, local
10model railroaders are publicly displaying their home layouts in
11a series of open house events in communities throughout this
12Commonwealth; and

13WHEREAS, Model railroading celebrates the motive, power and
14sentimental value associated with trains of all eras as well as
15the historic influence of rail routes and rail travel; and

16WHEREAS, Wooden, tinplate, cast iron and brass toy trains

1began appearing on the market in the late 19th century; and

2WHEREAS, Electric model trains and remote-control model
3trains were developed in the 20th century; and

4WHEREAS, Miniature rail cars, tracks and accessories built to
5scale became more widely available during the postwar era; and

6WHEREAS, State-of-the-art products and technologies have
7improved the quality and accuracy of the realistic scale models
8hobbyists can build; and

9WHEREAS, The House of Representatives joins model railroad
10enthusiasts and hobbyists in affirming the design, construction
11and operation of model layouts; therefore be it

12RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
13month of November 2013 as "National Model Railroad Month" in
14Pennsylvania.
