A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring the history and cooperative nature of the City of
2Pittsburgh Police Department in its daily service to the City
3of Pittsburgh.

4WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh Police Department formed on
5March 26, 1836, by an act that authorized one captain of the
6watch, two lieutenants of the watch and sixteen watchmen for the
7purpose of establishing a system of police to secure the city's
8citizens and property; and

9WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh Police Department currently
10employs approximately 900 law enforcement officers who work on a
11daily basis for the safety and security of the businesses and,
12approximately, 345,000 residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and

13WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh Police Department, City of
14Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the Pittsburgh Emergency Services
15Department have worked together to ensure events, such as the

1G-20 Summit, the multitude of athletic events, the numerous film
2productions, the various parades, the Pittsburgh Marathon and
3the National Night Out, do not encounter any misfortunes; and

4WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh Police Department, City of
5Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the Pittsburgh Emergency Services
6Department work closely with other municipalities of Region 13
7for strategic planning and disaster preparedness, and have
8formed the Swiftwater Rescue to assist with accidents and
9emergencies on the three rivers surrounding the City of
10Pittsburgh; and

11WHEREAS, It is fitting to honor the inter-department
12cooperation of these three outstanding agencies within the City
13of Pittsburgh; therefore be it

14RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the history
15and cooperative nature of the City of Pittsburgh Police
16Department in its daily service to the City of Pittsburgh.
