1Observing the month of October 2013 as "National Arts and
2Humanities Month" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The National Arts and Humanities Month was
4established in 1993 and is celebrated every October in the
5United States; and

6WHEREAS, The month of October has been recognized as Arts and
7Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural
8organizations, communities and states across the country; and

9WHEREAS, The arts and humanities embody much of the
10accumulated wisdom, intellect and imagination of humankind; and

11WHEREAS, The arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives
12of every American; and

13WHEREAS, The arts and humanities play a unique role in the
14lives of our families, our communities and our country; and

1WHEREAS, The nonprofit arts industry also strengthens
2Pennsylvania's economy by generating $2.55 billion in total
3economic activity annually and by supporting the full-time
4equivalent of 81,000 jobs; therefore be it

5RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives observe the month
6of October 2013 as "National Arts and Humanities Month" in
7Pennsylvania and urge residents to celebrate and promote the
8arts and culture in our Commonwealth and nation and to encourage
9greater participation in the arts and humanities in our towns
10and cities.
