A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing and congratulating 900 AM WURD Radio on the occasion
2of its tenth anniversary as "The Voice of the Community."

3WHEREAS, WURD radio was established in 2003 by LEVAS
4Communications under the leadership of Dr. Walter Lomax on the
5principle that communication and dialogue are central components
6to empowerment; and

7WHEREAS, WURD remains the only African-American owned and
8operated talk radio station in this Commonwealth working
9tirelessly to educate, inspire and uplift listeners; and

10WHEREAS, WURD blossomed under the expert leadership of
11General Managers W. Cody Anderson, Kernie Anderson and David W.
12Brown, all of whom widely expanded WURD's listenership and sales
13revenue during their respective tenures; and

14WHEREAS, WURD is proudly home to some of the most innovative,
15proactive, community-oriented and influential minds native to
16the Philadelphia region, including the late Reggie Bryant, the

1late Dr. Frank Wyatt, the late Rob Murray, State Representative
2Louise W. Bishop, Kenny Gamble, Dr. Lucille Ijoy, Sultan Ahmad,
3Minister Rodney Muhammad, Joey Temple, Vikki Leach, Darryl Gale,
4Thera Martin-Milling and Molefi Asante; and

5WHEREAS, WURD has remained at the forefront of advancing
6industry-related technology, thereby broadening its local,
7national and international audience through the relaunching of
8its website, professional usage of social media and a customized
9WURD application to ensure that listeners never miss a word; and

10WHEREAS, WURD continues to admirably exhibit its motto of "On
11Air, On-line, in the Community," under the tutelage of Sara
12Lomax Reese, by hosting quarterly interactive symposiums geared
13to explore the latest news, best practices and debates in
14politics, education, health care, behavioral health, personal
15financial health, cultural and economic development, criminal
16justice, social activism and civic engagement; and

17WHEREAS, WURD also hosts a series of intergenerational
18conversations led by professional experts from a variety of
19industries titled "Evenings with the Masters"; and

20WHEREAS, WURD has established strategic partnerships to offer
21ground-breaking initiatives with nonprofit, corporate and
22educational entities; and

23WHEREAS, WURD continues to be a progressive and innovative
24venue of empowerment and education; a platform for well-
25respected intellectuals and activists committed to equipping
26listeners with a historically objective analysis of news and
27information; and a sounding board for residents who are working
28to improve the quality of life for all residents, domestic and
29international; therefore be it

30RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor, recognize

1and congratulate 900 AM WURD Radio on the auspicious occasion of
2its tenth year anniversary as "The Voice of the Community."
