A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring the memory of Sean Conroy and the efforts of the
2National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children to
3provide support and assistance to survivors of homicide
4victims.

5WHEREAS, During the afternoon of March 28, 2008, Sean Conroy,
6a 36 years of age Center City Starbucks manager, was attacked
7and killed on a dare at the 13th and Market concourse by
8teenagers Arthur Alston, Rasheem Bell, Ameer Best, Nashir Fisher
9and Kinta Stanton; and

10WHEREAS, The group had cut school and randomly chose Mr.
11Conroy as the victim of the vicious attack that induced a fatal
12asthma attack; and

13WHEREAS, After being found guilty in a trial in 2009, Arthur
14Alston, Ameer Best, Nashir Fisher and Kinta Stanton were
15sentenced to 12.5 to 25 years in prison and Rasheem Bell served

111 months after testifying against his fellow attackers; and

2WHEREAS, Sean Conroy was an only child to his mother, Sharon
3Conroy, and was also survived by his father, Stephen Conroy and
4his fiancee, Stevany Johar; and

5WHEREAS, Sharon Conroy has worked with the National
6Organization of Parents of Murdered Children to help make her
7voice heard after the death of her only child; and

8WHEREAS, The National Organization of Parents of Murdered
9Children provides ongoing emotional support, education, advocacy
10and awareness to those who have family members of any age and
11works towards preventing murders nationwide; and

12WHEREAS, The 2013 National Conference for the National
13Organization of Parents of Murdered Children will be held in
14Cincinnati, Ohio, from August 15 through 18; therefore be it

15RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the memory
16of Sean Conroy and the efforts of the National Organization of
17Parents of Murdered Children to provide support and assistance
18to survivors of homicide victims.
