A RESOLUTION

1Honoring the civic and social contributions of the Pennsylvania
2Voter ID Coalition.

3WHEREAS, In March of 2012, the Pennsylvania Voter ID
4Coalition was convened for the purpose of preparing
5Pennsylvania's entire citizenry, irrespective of individual
6political party affiliations, for the impending sweeping changes
7to our Commonwealth's election laws, which were slated to go
8into full effect on November 6, 2012; and

9WHEREAS, Predicated upon a nonpartisan grassroots campaign,
10the Pennsylvania Voter ID Coalition undertook the critically
11important task of educating voters on the intricacies of the
12soon to be implemented changes to our Commonwealth's election
13laws and on the means of obtaining acceptable forms of
14identification for the purpose of exercising their right to
15vote; and

16WHEREAS, As a result of the groundswell of support
17surrounding the intense need and desire to preserve the

1integrity of the Commonwealth's electoral process and the
2principle of one person, one vote, the Pennsylvania Voter ID
3Coalition set up its field office at 310 W. Chelten Avenue,
4Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and

5WHEREAS, As a widely diverse coalition of faith-based
6organizations, educational institutions, civic, advocacy, legal,
7labor, political, community and media-based entities, the
8Pennsylvania Voter ID Coalition is comprised of more than 100
9organizations throughout the City of Philadelphia, the Delaware
10Valley and across this Commonwealth; and

11WHEREAS, On July 24, 2012, in an effort to further amplify
12its message of preserving the integrity of Pennsylvania's
13electoral process, the Pennsylvania Voter ID Coalition undertook
14the task of making its clarion call from the front steps of the
15Pennsylvania Statehouse, located in Harrisburg; and

16WHEREAS, The hard work and efforts of the Pennsylvania Voter
17ID Coalition were successful, at least temporarily, in ensuring
18that an appropriate balance was struck concerning the desire to
19prevent voter fraud and preserving the franchise of every
20eligible Pennsylvanian; and

21WHEREAS, On July 11, 2013, in an effort to raise further
22awareness about the changes both instituted and yet to be
23implemented concerning Pennsylvania's election laws, the
24Pennsylvania Voter ID Coalition will reinforce its
25organization's message in the Main Capitol Rotunda of the
26Pennsylvania Statehouse; and

27WHEREAS, From the outset, the Pennsylvania Voter ID
28Coalition's primary objective was and will continue to be to
29ensure that Pennsylvania's 8.2 million registered voters are
30afforded a reasonable, equitable and secure means of exercising

1their constitutionally accorded right to vote in this
2Commonwealth, irrespective of whether or not that vote
3ultimately is cast for a candidate of either the Republican,
4Democratic, or otherwise recognized political party; therefore
5be it

6RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives formally
7acknowledge and honor the civic and social contributions of the
8Pennsylvania Voter ID Coalition.
