A RESOLUTION

 

1Declaring the week of April 29 through May 3, 2013, as
2"Pennsylvania Academic Competition Week" in Pennsylvania; and
3urging the Department of Education, local school districts
4and intermediate units to participate in the 22nd annual
5Statewide Pennsylvania Academic Competition on May 3, 2013.

6WHEREAS, The education of all Pennsylvania children is a
7major concern to the citizens of this Commonwealth and requires
8the use of creative and innovative means to focus attention upon
9this concern; and

10WHEREAS, Excellence displayed in athletic competition has
11long been recognized by societal and community rewards provided
12for that competition; and

13WHEREAS, Academic competition is an innovative and creative
14attempt to involve children, parents, educators and community
15members in an educational forum for excellence; and

16WHEREAS, Academic competition helps to hone the abilities and
17intellectual skills of students, as well as providing

1opportunities for incentives to continue the pursuit of
2excellence in education; and

3WHEREAS, A coordinated program of academic competition has
4not existed in this Commonwealth, except in isolated school
5district programs; therefore be it

6RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
7of April 29 through May 3, 2013, as "Pennsylvania Academic
8Competition Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further

9RESOLVED, That the Department of Education, local school
10districts and intermediate units be urged to actively
11participate in the finals of the 22nd annual Statewide
12Pennsylvania Academic Competition to be held in the House of
13Representatives Chamber on May 3, 2013.
