A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring the memory of law enforcement officers who gave their
2lives in the line of duty in this Commonwealth and
3recognizing the memorial service in their honor in Soldiers'
4Grove at the State Capitol Complex on May 6, 2013.

5WHEREAS, The following law enforcement officers have made the
6ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on the following dates:
7Trooper First Class Blake T. Coble, Pennsylvania State Police,
8October 4, 2012; Police Officer Bradley Fox, Plymouth Township
9Police Department, September 13, 2012; Police Officer Moses
10Walker, Jr., Philadelphia Police Department, August 18, 2012;
11Police Officer Brian Lorenzo, Philadelphia Police Department,
12July 8, 2012; and Police Officer Avery Freeman, Chester Police

1Department, April 30, 2012; and

2WHEREAS, The deaths of these law enforcement officers make a
3total of 731 officers who, through the year 2012, made the
4ultimate sacrifice since the beginning of law enforcement within
5this Commonwealth; and

6WHEREAS, A Venango County constable who died in April 1825 is
7believed to be the first officer to have given his life in the
8line of duty in this Commonwealth; and

9WHEREAS, "National Police Memorial Day" is held on May 15
10each year; and

11WHEREAS, The week containing May 15 is celebrated each year
12as "National Police Week"; and

13WHEREAS, On October 1, 1962, Joint Resolution 730 of the 87th
14Congress of the United States was signed, authorizing the
15President to proclaim May 15 of each year as "Peace Officers
16Memorial Day"; and

17WHEREAS, Twenty years passed before the first "National
18Police Memorial Day" was recognized on May 15, 1982; and

19WHEREAS, May 15 has continued to be observed annually in
20memory of those police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice
21in the line of duty; and

22WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Lodge of the Fraternal Order
23of Police presents the annual memorial service in this
24Commonwealth; therefore be it

25RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
26memories of the following law enforcement officers who gave
27their lives in the line of duty in this Commonwealth in 2012:
28Trooper First Class Blake T. Coble, Police Officer Bradley Fox,
29Police Officer Moses Walker, Jr., Police Officer Brian Lorenzo
30and Police Officer Avery Freeman; and be it further

1RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
2memorial service in their honor in Soldiers' Grove at the State
3Capitol Complex on May 6, 2013.
