A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring Bronze Star Medal recipient Staff Sergeant Wilmer R.
2Gentry in recognition of his 22 years of meritorious service
3to his country.

4WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Wilmer R. Gentry served 22 years of
5active duty with the United States Marine Corps, attaining the
6rank of Staff Sergeant; and

7WHEREAS, S. Sgt. Gentry served in the Korean War and two
8tours of duty in Vietnam; and

9WHEREAS, In Vietnam, he was assigned as a section chief of an
10M-55 howitzer gun crew and was always the first to step forward
11to accept the most dangerous tasks that confronted his unit; and

12WHEREAS, S. Sgt. Gentry further served as a forward observer
13scout sergeant at remote outposts in the heart of Viet Cong
14territory, a commander of a detached howitzer platoon and a
15noncommissioned officer in charge of a special unit assigned to
16conduct a reconnaissance mission; and

17WHEREAS, S. Sgt. Gentry is being presented with the Bronze
18Star Medal in recognition of his meritorious service as a member

1of the United States Marine Corps; and

2WHEREAS, The Bronze Star is the fourth highest award for
3bravery, heroism or meritorious service in the United States
4Armed Forces and was established by President Franklin D.
5Roosevelt in 1944; and

6WHEREAS, S. Sgt. Gentry graduated from George Washington
7University and Saint Leo University and retired as Chief
8Executive Officer of the American Red Cross in Lancaster; and

9WHEREAS, Throughout his military career, S. Sgt. Gentry
10displayed conspicuous gallantry, extraordinary heroism and
11intrepid leadership; therefore be it

12RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Bronze Star
13Medal recipient S. Sgt. Wilmer R. Gentry in recognition of his
1422 years of meritorious service to his country; and be it
15further

16RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to S.
17Sgt. Wilmer R. Gentry, 303 Hilltop Drive, Ephrata, Pennsylvania
