A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the week of May 6 through 12, 2013, as "Nurses Week"
2in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, which
4includes 31 organizational affiliates, is the largest
5professional nursing association in this Commonwealth; and

6WHEREAS, Established in 1903, the Pennsylvania State Nurses
7Association has advanced the identity, integrity and continuity
8of the profession of nursing in this Commonwealth for more than
9110 years; and

10WHEREAS, "National Nurses Week" begins May 6 and ends May 12
11each year, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale's birthday;
12and

1WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has 212,000 registered nurses,
2including approximately 55,000 licensed practical nurses and
312,000 advanced practice registered nurses; and

4WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is working
5diligently to chart a new course for a healthy Commonwealth that
6relies on increasing the delivery of primary and preventative
7health care, coupled with a strong focus on nursing care; and

8WHEREAS, The nursing care provided by the registered nurses
9of this Commonwealth is a paramount component of Pennsylvania's
10health care delivery system; therefore be it

11RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
12week of May 6 through 12, 2013, as "Nurses Week" in
13Pennsylvania; and be it further

14RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives join the
15Pennsylvania State Nurses Association and other nursing
16organizations in recognizing the selfless service of
17Pennsylvania's nurses and the overall importance of quality
18nursing care.
