1Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2Statutes, in other required equipment, providing for a pilot
3program to place cameras on the outside of school buses.

4The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5hereby enacts as follows:

6Section 1. Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
7Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:

8§ 4554. Cameras on school buses pilot program.

9The department shall:

10(1) Establish and administer a pilot program to place
11cameras on the outside of school buses to study the
12prevalence of motorists overtaking school buses that are
13stopped with red lights flashing, as proscribed in section
143345 (relating to meeting or overtaking school bus).

15(2) Select a rural, suburban and urban school district
16for the pilot program.

17(3) Take any action to facilitate the gathering and
18analyzing of information developed by the pilot program,

1including choosing the type of camera to use for the study.

2(4) Report its recommendations based on the study and a
3cost-benefit analysis of the program to the General Assembly.

4Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
