AN ACT
1Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
2Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, in juries and jurors,
3further providing for exemptions from jury duty and for list
4of disqualified jurors.
5The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6hereby enacts as follows:
7Section 1. Section 4503(a) of Title 42 of the Pennsylvania
8Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding <-a paragraph
<-9paragraphs to read:
10§ 4503. Exemptions from jury duty.
11(a) General rule.--No person shall be exempt or excused from
12jury duty except the following:

14(6) Persons 75 years of age or older who opt not to
15serve.
<-16(7) Breastfeeding women providing the court with a
17certified letter from their physician which states that the
1woman is breastfeeding. An excuse under this paragraph shall
2be valid for one year and may be renewed for one additional
3year provided that the woman is able to provide the court
4with a certified letter from the woman's physician which
5states that the woman is breastfeeding.

7Section 2. Section 4523 of Title 42 is amended by adding a
8subsection to read:
9§ 4523. List of disqualified jurors.

11(c) Persons aged 75 years or older.--A person who is exempt
12or excused from jury duty under section 4503(a)(6) (relating to
13exemptions from jury duty) may petition the jury selection
14commission to have the person's name placed on the list of
15disqualified jurors. A person placed on the list may, at any
16time, petition for removal of the person's name from the list
17unless the person is disqualified under section 4502 (relating
18to qualifications of jurors).
19Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
