1Amending Title 53 (Municipalities Generally) of the Pennsylvania
2Consolidated Statutes, further providing for the powers and
3duties of the Municipal Police Officers' Education and
4Training Commission.

5The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6hereby enacts as follows:

7Section 1. Section 2164 of Title 53 of the Pennsylvania
8Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a paragraph to read:

9§ 2164. Powers and duties of commission.

10The powers and duties of the commission shall be as follows:

12(1.1) To include, among the minimum courses established
13under paragraph (1), a training course on the handling,
14investigation and response procedures concerning reports of
15domestic violence. This course shall include information
16concerning the impact of domestic violence on society, the
17dynamics of domestic violence, the statutory and case law
18concerning domestic violence, the necessary elements of a

1protection order and the use of available community
2resources, support services, available sanctions and
3treatment options. All new officers shall be required to
4complete this training course within 90 days of appointment
5or transfer, and all current officers shall be required to
6fulfill an annual in-service training course of at least four
7hours of training in this area.
