AN ACT

 

1Redesignating Concord Road (S.R. 3007) in Chester Township,
2Delaware County, as Judge Robert A. Wright Memorial Road.

3The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4hereby enacts as follows:

5Section 1. Judge Robert A. Wright Memorial Road.

6(a) Findings.--

7(1) Judge Robert A. Wright, a native of the City of
8Chester, broke racial barriers by becoming the first African
9American to serve in the Delaware County District Attorney's
10Office and on the county court.

11(2) Judge Wright had the unique privilege of swearing in
12his own son, Robert C. Wright, to the bench in 1992, and the
13two also had the historic privilege of being the first father
14and son to serve together on the Common Pleas Court for
15Delaware County.

16(3) A graduate of Temple Law School, Judge Wright was
17appointed to the court in 1970 and was elected to his first

1ten-year term in 1971.

2(4) In December 1989, he was appointed to a senior
3status on the court until 2003 when he was named a court
4conciliator.

5(5) Prior to becoming a judge, he served six years as an
6assistant district attorney.

7(6) Judge Wright received the Donald J. Orlowsky Award
8from the Delaware County Bar Association and the Delaware
9County Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Award.

10(7) Judge Wright will be remembered as a learned jurist
11who combined integrity and compassion with his strong
12knowledge of the law and who always reached a fair and just
13result.

14(8) After a distinguished law career spanning 45 years,
15Judge Wright retired in 1989 and passed away on Wednesday,
16February 3, 2010, at Glen Mills Senior Living at the age of
1790.

18(b) Redesignation.--The road located in Chester Township,
19Delaware County, known as Concord Road (S.R. 3007) is
20redesignated as Judge Robert A. Wright Memorial Road.

21(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
22maintain appropriate road signs displaying the redesignated name
23of the road to traffic in both directions.

24Section 2. Effective date.

25This act shall take effect in 60 days.
